MISSIONS MOMENTS

"Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations,

baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit

teaching them to follow all that I commanded you;

and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20

Shara's Story

Shara Uzzell found a love for missions in a quest to honor the life of her father, Scott Uzzell. Shara is active in many forms of local missions and has been on two mission trips to Roatan, Hondoras and Nome, Alaska. Shara has used her experiences to lead and guide the Berea Missions Team as Missions Team Chairperson.  She helped lead the team at the Iditarod Race in Nome, Alaska.

“I went to Nome to honor my father, who had just passed away, and to praise God. I found a feeling of being a part of something way bigger than myself.  We were bringing people from all walks of life and areas together to work as one for God.  Step outside of your comfort zone.  It will change your life.”

Debbie's Story

Debbie Barnette has had a heart for Alaska missions since her first mission trip in 2013.  Since then, she has been back to Alaska on a total of 5 mission trips to Akiak, Juneau, Nome, and the Mat-Su Valley outside of Anchorage, Alaska.

Debbie has turned team missions into a family affair.  Her son, Jonathan, often joins her, but on a recent trip to the Mat-Su region, not only did Jonathan join her, but Jonathan’s daughter, Rylee, and Debbie’s niece and great-nephew, Trysten.

“One of the things that I’ve seen on these trips that they require individuals with all types of gifts and skills.  I’ve also found that I can be ministered to in a very close and personal way by working side by side with fellow Christians. If you’re given the opportunity to participate on a mission trip, don’t say No. Listen to God’s call and receive one of the greatest blessings he has for you!”

Pastor Joel's Story

Pastor Joel began his journey into missions as a small boy in the Sunbeams class.  He never dreamed that he would one day stand in front of large groups of people in South Africa and Liberia preaching the Good News. In addition, Pastor Joel has traveled to Waco, Texas, Lima and Trujillo, Peru, Haiti, Nicaragua, Honduras, as well as Alaska, West Virginia, Kentucky, Phoenix, Arizona, and served locally here in North Carolina at Camp Caraway.

“Being on the receiving end of short-term teams coming to help us at least once or twice a year, we really began to understand and know the importance of those who volunteer to come and help. It was always so encouraging to know you are not alone in the work God has called all of us to.”
